Thieves Beware – FleetWatch scheme launched

Thieve Beware

Thieves beware!  Anyone thinking of committing a crime in Fleet – watch out!  Fleet businesses are partnering with Hampshire Constabulary to stop shop lifters and other criminals coming to the town.  How are they going to do this?  By forming FleetWatch.

All FleetWatch businesses will be linked by radio to the Police, and to each other, so that they can immediately share details of any incidents in the town.  As a bonus, they will also have access to an online “mugshot” gallery of active offenders targeting the town – not pretty viewing!

Emma Molyneux, Chair of the Fleet Business Forum said “Being able to share information quickly with other businesses in the town as well the Police is really reassuring and will help to reduce crime in our town.”

Caroleanne Baker from Hart Shopping Centre explained “Being connected to businesses outside in the high street helps us to all to work together and share information.”

PCSO Max Clayton, from Hampshire Constabulary, added “Fleet has recently been actively targeted by shoplifters who have been deterred by the successful ShopWatch schemes in surrounding towns.  Fleet Watch will result in better communication between the Police and local businesses.”
