No changes to bin collection days in Fleet this Christmas and New Year

In 2021 there will be no changes to bin collection days as Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall at a weekend and the crews will be working on the bank holidays, unless adverse weather affects the service.
Collections will take place as usual in the week of Monday 27 December and Monday 3 January and residents should put their rubbish and recycling out on their usual collection day. The crew will take extra rubbish sacks on the first collection after Christmas only and as usual they will pick up extra recycling too.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hart District Council, which have a joint waste collection service, are reminding residents that most wrapping paper, ribbon, glitter and sellotape cannot be recycled and should be put it in the waste bin.

Garden waste collections will take a two-week break as usual from Monday 27 December and will restart on Monday 10 January. Garden waste customers can leave their real Christmas trees out for collection in the new year, although trees over 6ft tall should be cut in half.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Recycling and Waste Cllr Hayley Eachus said: “I want to extend my sincere thanks to the bin crews who have had a particularly challenging year and will be out on their rounds while many of us will still be enjoying the Christmas festivities.”
“Residents can do their bit to help our crews get around the borough quicker this Christmas by flattening cardboard, squashing plastic bottles, not overfilling bins and making sure that all recycling is clean and dry.”
Hart District Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Alan Oliver added: “I echo Cllr Eachus in praising the bin crews for their fantastic efforts over the festive period. Removing the additional waste over the festive period is no mean feat.

We’re also reminding residents that they can pick up a free glass collection box from the councils in the run-up to Christmas to deal with all of those extra empties. The boxes should not be filled above the rim and glass should be rinsed.”
