Shapley Heath Garden Village
Hart District Council is formally launching its community engagement, exploring the opportunity of a new Garden Community in Hart, with the first stakeholder forum to be held online in January 2021. Renowned garden communities’ expert and former government advisor, Lord Taylor of Goss Moor, will deliver a presentation.
The stakeholder forum will explore the opportunity of a Garden Community in the area of Winchfield and Murrell Green, under the working title of Shapley Heath Garden Village.
Cllr Graham Cockarill, Cabinet Member for Place at Hart District Council, said: “We’re pleased to reach this important milestone in the project, which has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. A dedicated team is now in place to undertake a rigorous consultation and engagement process.”
The Garden Community programme has been set up by the Ministry for Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) to help meet demand for new homes in England. Garden communities are intended to create new housing, infrastructure, jobs and services within sustainable communities.
Hart District Council has been successful in joining the Government’s Garden Communities programme. A new Garden Community could provide Hart with a long-term, sustainable housing solution of up to 5,000 homes (including a significant proportion of affordable homes). The Garden Community would also create job opportunities, healthy places and green spaces, sustainable transport options, community infrastructure (such as schools and health centres), and plan for long-term stewardship of community assets.
