Fleet BID Renewal Ballot results

On Friday 25th March 2022 the results of the renewal ballot for the Fleet Business Improvement District (BID), FindYourFleet were published.

Fleet BID has been voted in for a second five-year programme of activity following a successful renewal ballot. The business plan for the next five years focuses on high street recovery supporting the main retail, commercial, hospitality and leisure area in Fleet.

With the majority of businesses voting in favour of the BID this has secured an investment of £570,000 in Fleet over the next five years delivering projects in these key areas:

  • Marketing and Events
  • Business Support
  • Improving the experience and enhancing the look of Fleet
  • Influencing the future of Fleet town centre

Businesses voting included its national chains, independent shops, professional services, cafes, bars, restaurants, hairdressers and beauty salons. For any BID ballot to be successful, there needs to be a majority of businesses in favour, both in terms of number of votes cast and by rateable value. The percentage of YES votes by number was 56% in favour by number and 56% by rateable value .

Tyler Harman, Fleet BID Chair, says, “COVID has accelerated the shift from town centres being somewhere that people go just to shop to meeting places and social centres with a broader range of businesses and more housing. How town centres are used and how they operate is rapidly changing – and will continue to change. Securing this investment for Fleet enables businesses to come together to shape the future and make sure that Fleet meets the needs of businesses and their employees, residents and visitors alike.”

The Fleet Business Improvement District, FindYourFleet was formed in 2017. Fleet BID is a not-for-profit company  funded entirely by businesses in the town with 83% businesses contributing less than £1.50 a day. The ballot process was undertaken by independent adjudicator Civica Election Services and follows months of consultation to understand local business needs to develop the business plan for the next five years.

The BID will hold its AGM in April for businesses to vote in the BID Board.
