As VE Day events have been cancelled across the country, the Royal British Legion has called on the nation to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day from home.
Friday 8th May is the 75th anniversary of VE Day and a Bank Holiday. Events include
- 11am: Two minutes Silence
- 11.15am: VE Day 75 livestream on the Royal British Legion website and social media channels
- From 8pm: An evening of memories and music in partnership on BBC One
- 9pm: A UK-wide singalong to Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again

Friday 8th May is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the entire Second World War generation, from British, Commonwealth and Allied Forces to evacuees and those who served on the home front. The Second World War had a profound impact on communities across the UK and the Commonwealth which continued long after the war came to an end. The challenges of leaving, longing for and returning home were experienced by many people at the time and are still faced by Service families today.
We remember the contribution of all Allied Forces, including forces from across the Commonwealth, without who the liberation of Europe and Japan would not have been possible.
The Royal British Legion will commemorate VJ Day on Saturday 15th August with the programme to be announced in due course.
